CHALLENGE

National Geographic wanted to develop a new product that would take the more than 500 maps published in their magazine over the past century and make them available to search and view on CD-ROM.

SOLUTION

We worked with the product team at National Geographic to create a rich and visually compelling experience that enhanced the content of their high-resolution maps by placing them into meaningful historic and scientific context. Design Alliance designed an intuitive and engaging interface that immerses the viewer in the world of National Geographic through an animated introduction movie, seven interactive thematic tours of National Geographic themes, 22 thematic videos, and two in-depth, interactive timelines of cartography - all on eight CD-ROMs. The National Geographic MAPS product has won numerous awards, including Best CD-ROM of the Year, and it has gone on to be a continual best seller.
